What is a filling?
A filling is a dental material used to restore missing tooth structure caused by decay.
What are the types of filling available?
Composite Fillings
Composite fillings are a tooth coloured resin that are bonded to the tooth and are suitable to be used on front and back teeth, the benefits of a composite filling are that they are more conservative when preparing the tooth and they are more aesthetic than amalgam because they blend with the colour of your teeth. They bond to your own tooth structure and therefore reduce the likelihood of the tooth cracking around the filling.
Amalgam Fillings
Amalgam fillings are a metal alloy. Due to the metal appearance they are not very aesthetic and are used on back teeth. The benefits of amalgam are that they are strong and can withstand the forces of chewing.
